Exercise Motivation for Older Adults

Eight different people, living in a country not too far away, were all looking for a way to improve their health and fitness.

This group of wellness-seekers included a 13-year old girl, an athlete aged nineteen, a new mother aged twenty-five, a male policeman aged thirty-two, a mother of two aged forty-five, a male heart attack victim aged fifty-three, a male sixty-one with double knee implants, and a female seventy-two.

Fitness Motivation for Older Adults

The individuals joined the same group exercise class, despite the fact that it might sound absurd. The individuals had different expectations, health needs and goals. All were asked to do similar exercises.

The majority of exercises involve functional bodyweight movements that improve strength, endurance and mobility.

Exercises were performed at a self-paced pace, with careful instruction and monitoring to ensure correct technique and adjust to different performance requirements. All of the participants completed the workout despite their physical differences.

This is no health and fitness fantasy. This is something that happens every day in little Laramie. You could be living in a similar situation.

Next time someone says that you should focus your exercise on age, I encourage you to think about how ability is much more accurate in determining if a workout will be successful for you and if it’s right for you.

When doubts are thrown at you, remember that the majority of the population is overweight by at least 20 pounds. You can achieve a healthy life style and perform at your best no matter your age, your goal or your physical limitations with a smart, consistent and affordable exercise program and small group training classes. Everyone is different, so personal training might be better for you.
