You can satisfy your sweet tooth without having to worry about your blood sugar levels going out of control. This recipe is packed with healthy fats such as nut butters, coconut oil and almond butter which help to stabilize blood sugar levels instead of eating a snack high in carbohydrates. This recipe also contains collagen, a form of easily digestible protein that is great for skin, hair and nails. It’s also good for gut health, joints, and even your joints. It’s high protein content is also good for curbing your cravings.
Maca is one of my favorite adaptogens, so this freezer fudge has a special touch. Maca is a Peruvian cruciferous vegetable (same as broccoli, cauliflower and Kale). You can find the root in powder form at health food and grocery stores. Maca is traditionally used to boost libido in both men and women and may also help with menopause symptoms. It was therefore a perfect choice for Valentine’s Day.
The maca is also good for an energy boost, and can help with learning and memory. This freezer fudge is a perfect mid-afternoon treat to get you through the afternoon slump. When buying maca I recommend gelatinized maca as it is easier to digest and absorb by your body.
*P.S. Maca is not recommended during pregnancy, breast-feeding or for children. This recipe can be made without maca, and the results will be the same.

Ingredients:
Coconut oil, 1/2 cup
1/4 cup almond butter
Natural peanut butter, 1/2 cup
Add 3 tbsp of raw honey or maple syrup to taste (add 1 tbsp at a time, if desired)
1/4 cup cacao powder (or cocoa)
2 tbsp Maca
20g unflavoured collagen peptides (optional)
Directions:
- Melt the coconut oil in a medium-sized pot over low heat.
- Stir or whisk the honey and nut butters until they have melted.
- Mix the maca, collagen and raw cacao powder until they are completely dissolved.
- Pour the mixture in ice trays made of rubber or chocolate tins. If you don’t have ice trays or chocolate tins, pour the mixture in a loaf pan lined with parchment paper.
- Freeze for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Remove the tray from the freezer and place the frozen cake in it. If you are using a loaf tray, let it thaw out for about 10-15 minutes. Then use a sharp blade to cut into pieces.
